the space age was an era of wonder and elegance I fell in love with years ago. through this side table, I'm attempting to begin a new space age, emphasizing notions of curious curvature and geometry in order to evoke the feeling of enchantment in what is normally such a simple and simply used object. the relationship between positive and negative space was especially regarded in the design process. between the floating circular element, steel base structure, and plate attaching to the hand crafted walnut top, this table uses 6 varying thicknesses of steel. as a lover of materials, steel and walnut was the natural pairing I turned to. both materials are brought from the earth and the capabilities in complimenting each other are brought forward in this piece of utilitarian art. I hope one finds art in this object; similar to the prolific union of art and utilitarianism during the 1960s. dimensions: 23.25” x 15.75” x 21.25”
