approaching a tabletop mobile is inherently oppositional to the art object's integrity. when we consider mobiles, we recall of spacial exploration and motion– both of which are difficult to depict at small scales. in my design, I focused on capturing a sense of architectural scale and perspective manipulation through geometry our minds can easily scale up. this incites imagination and curiosity in the user or viewer; like me, the response is a yearning to see it on a massive scale. texture and color were also factors which could either enlighten the object or impose upon its existence. I experimented with chemical reactions on the two pieces floating pieces balancing upon the dimples in the steel. the end result for both floating elements is a completely unique texture and color which appears to change depending on the light. between the ever shifting movable plates rising from the base and the dozen or so dimples upon the ledges, this composition has infinite positions and will always exist as a work in motion.
